I'm not sure if I misunderstood your question but it sounds like you're asking if it's appropriate to forward a press release via email to your contacts?
I think if you're going to do a press release it's important to send it out through the proper media channels (there are plenty of free and paid press release distribution resources, many of which are discussed in this forum, and some of which are listed in the
directory.
I would then suggest that if you want to canvas your contacts list with an intro to your business you might want to write something a little more personal and then in the closing paragraph include a link to your published press release (either on your site or one of the media outlets you use).
