My first press releases - comments?
Hi all - I just finished drafting my first press release, and I thought I'd submit it here for comments before sending it off to different publications. You ladies are great at offering comments and suggestions, so your feedback would be greatly appreciated! I'm planning to let it sit for a while, make my final edits, then submit it tomorrow or Monday.

The Write Associate offers businesses cost-effective marketing and administrative support
Omaha, NE, 1/30/08 – There is now an easy solution for business owners and independent professionals who have more work than time to complete it: Tammi Metzler, owner-operator of The Write Associate, offers virtual marketing and administrative services without the hassles, expenses, or commitment of hiring full-time employees. By delegating their marketing and administrative projects to The Write Associate, clients are able to focus their concentration on revenue-generating activities that will grow their businesses. As a Virtual Assistant, Tammi works from her own office based in Omaha, NE, communicating with clients primarily through e-mail, fax, and phone. Why is that important? By working with companies as a contractor, rather than an employee, clients are spared typical employee expenses such as overhead, benefits, office space, and income taxes. According to Tammi Metzler, “In addition to saving business owners money on employee expenses, by taking over marketing and administrative tasks, we also give them more time for the important things in life, whether that’s spending time with their loved ones, growing their businesses, or just taking a much-needed break.”
Armed with more than nine years of corporate administrative experience, a Bachelor’s degree in English, and two years of experience in the Advertising industry, The Write Associate is well-equipped to manage your marketing and administrative needs. Services offered by The Write Associate include writing and editing of newsletters, brochures, flyers, web site content, blogs, articles, and promotional eBooks; manuscript preparation, typing, data entry, Excel spreadsheet creation, PowerPoint presentation creation, Internet research, and travel arrangements. Re: My first press releases - comments?
Thanks for the wonderful comments, Tess!
I did realize, however, that I won't be able to submit this quite yet. I'd planned to send it to the major newspaper in my town, which has something like 200,000 daily readers, but then I remembered that many of the coworkers at my full-time job read that paper daily. Since I'm waiting until I'm ready to quit my job to announce my new endeavor to coworkers, I'm thinking I'll have to wait on the press release. Even submitting it to places like PR Web is risky since I work at a marketing agency, and we have a whole PR team that regularly searches such sites. Oh well...like my husband said, it's probably for the best to save the press release until I'm ready to launch the business full-time and then I can let the world know what I'm up to. At least now it's written and ready to go as soon as I'm ready to submit it!

Tammi,
You are indeed a very good writer. Your words captured exactly what a Virtual Assistant does and how he or she can assist businesses. After reading your press release, there aren't any questions left lingering for the reader. Great job!

Re: My first press releases - comments?
Excellent article. I have some questions but your an English Major so you problably know more than me! haha, maybe you can help ME understand.
I'm confused at this sentence, if I reorganize the structure of the sentence (below), it would require some changes, grammatically. I think the subject is maybe mixed up. I don't know the proper grammatical terminology to use: By working with companies as a contractor, rather than an employee, clients are spared typical employee expenses such as overhead, benefits, office space, and income taxes.
Rearranged: Clients are spared typical employee expenses such as ....., by working with companies as a contractor, rather than an employee.
1.) "by working with companies as a contractor" I'm not sure if you mean the client is working with companies because the client is a contractor? if so the meaning doesn't make sense.
2.) "by working with companies as a contractor" perhaps you mean, the clients are working with companies who are contractors (as in The Write Associates). If so, you have plural "companies", but singular "contractor", however they should be same - correct?
What are your thoughts on that?
You have concise writing and I like your quotation.
Sincerely,
Sarah Bernstein

Re: My first press releases - comments?
Hi Sarah - you're right; now that I read that sentence again, the meaning is a bit confusing. I meant that because I work with companies as a contractor, they'll save on expenses. I'll have to reword that so it's clear. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!
Joyce - Thanks for your interest! I'll be sending you a private message shortly.
