After a lot of stalling, I finally sent out my media release to local press and radio/TV stations. This one's for my own county exclusively. What do you think?
A New Kind of Business in Alamance County
Mary H. Ruth, of Snow Camp, has launched a new kind of business-to-business service for Alamance County commerce.
Are you a business owner with employee issues or administrative headaches? Do you need to delegate tasks just occasionally, not every day? Are you tired of employee productivity or retention problems? Are you frustrated that your growth potential is hampered by unending administrative details? Do you need a marketing plan/campaign, website design or search engine optimization? Do you need a mailing compiled and sent, or help with your daily correspondence, or research done about your competition or equipment? Could you use a series of articles or blogs to keep your website in the public eye?
All these and many more administrative tasks can be accomplished by Mary Ruth’s Virtual Assistant service, Virtual Writing & Communications Solutions. Her new internet-based business operates from her home in southern Alamance.
After more than thirty years doing administrative work of many kinds, Ruth started up her Virtual Assistant (VA) business last November.
“Between commuting, office protocols, politics and constant interruptions, it used to be that a two-hour job could take 8,” says Ruth. “As a VA, a two-hour job is exactly that, no more, no less. I use time-tracking software to ensure accurate billing.”
This translates into savings for the business owner. In partnering with Virtual Writing & Communications Solutions, a business eliminates costs of maintaining an office location and equipment for administration.
Since VAs operate by contract – i.e., a VA is a contractor, not an employee – businesses also save in terms of taxes, benefits, and sick time and vacation leave.
Mary Ruth majored in English at UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating in 1975. Most of the three decades since were spent working in the nonprofit arts world. She served at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro from 1976 through 2004, and at the Alamance County Arts Council for the past two years.
To supplement the typically meager pay from the nonprofit world, Ruth was also employed from time to time in law offices, a copy center, a landscape business, a sign shop and others. The variety of her administrative experience contributes to her current ability to assist many different kinds of businesses.
According to Ruth, “By working as a VA, I’m in a position to help several business owners at once, saving them money and hassle through this efficient operation. The internet is what makes it possible.”
Virtual Assistance is a new industry that’s rapidly growing around the globe.
“To my knowledge, there’s just one other person operating full time as a VA in Alamance County,” says Ruth. “But mark my words, there will soon be many more!”
