Thanks Tess
This is something that I need, I hope to submit my first press release shortly.
I don't have any tips of my own. But I get a lot of help from this Web site:
http://www.beheardsolutions.com/. Shannon Cherry is a former tv anchor and has a lot of good connections. You can sign up for her free newsletter. I did purchase her press release kit last year but didn't use it yet. I also have the book: Free Publicity by Jeff Crilley. I did look through it but thats about it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this. Very insightful articles. I must admit, I would really love to have more time to write more press releases & blogs. I tend to have a real problem with writer's block these days. Either that or I can't decide on which subject to write. I could spend all day writing articles if I put my mind to it. But then I wouldn't get any real work done.

Excellent article - Sara Evans always has great advice. I do press releases for a client, and I'm pleased to see that I am already doing several tips listed - including having him cut back on the number we submit because they just weren't newsworthy enough. However, there are several things I can begin to do after reading this - thanks for the link!

I confess I know next to nothing about press releases. Do you submit them as HTML files?

I'm confused about this.

This article, PRWeb Guidelines for Writing a Press Release, states not to use HTML in your release. And here's another article that tells how to make your PR SEO friendly.

So it depends on what media your PR is going to? Print, no HTML, online, HTML ok?

All the articles are GREAT, thanks for posting them.

Lezly, hmm the article doesn't go into more detail as to why no HTML. BUT I can see where you are coming from. I have never used HTML in my press releases and mostly likely won't.

Hi

Excellent article!! She's always has the best articles. Thanks for sharing that one Tess.

I too agree on Shannon Cherry, she has some amazing tips. Also, Joan Stewart - Publicity Hound and Bill Stoller - Free Publicity newsletter. I also try and give out lots of Press release tips on twitter and my newsletter too.

A few of my tips for SEO are:

Do a keyword search before you submit the article. Even adding a "s" to the end of a word makes a huge difference.
Add the best keywords in the first 4 words of the title. That's a struggle sometimes, but it's so worth it.
Add in keyword phrases. They call it something like long tail keywords or something like that. Basically it's just adding in what people would type into google to find you.
Also make sure your website link (with the http is in the first paragrah or shortly thereafter. The top part is absolutely the best.
Us different forms of your keywords .. like publicity virtual assistant or virtual publicity assistant.

Hope this helps!

Had to bookmark this one. Thank you for the link. I heard a great webinar on making a blog that would bring you up higher in Google searches. This article mentions many of the points brought out in the webinar.

Thanks,
Janet

Hi Lezly, always better to post questions like this as new threads - but I did finally see your question here in the mix so I'll try to help answer

The SEO in your PR isn't the same as SEO on a website, so HTML doesn't come into play. It's about the headline, keyword density, text links and various other factors.

The PR Web text editor and overall submission process also have various features to help you optmize your PR (at a certain payment level).

Some other PR sites do have text editors that allow some very minor HTML tags like bold, links, italics but nothing like H2 or similar.

I hope that helps clarify a bit!
