Default Yes!! More Work
Hi All -

The Client I am working with on some projects wants me update his website and adwords in Goggle, Amazon, Shopzilla and Yahoo. I let him know I have not done this before but if he's willing to train I am happy to learn.

I am wondering how much to charge for this service; my regular hourly rate?? Is there much of a need for this kind of service?

Thanks as always for your help!!!

Hi Karen -

I am currently being trained in google adwords as well, by a client. I can see where you could definitely benefit from learning it. Especially if you had other clients that needs this type of work done and they were not willing to train.

It's time consuming, but I'm enjoying the learning process!

It's worth learning what this is about as many clients need this kind of support. I would charge an hourly rate - one that is higher than normal word-processing, but only after you fully understand what you are doing. You're on a learning curve so would suggest you practice on your own sites and projects so you fully understand how it all works. But if the client is willing for you to learn on their time then charging your normal rate for now would most likely be ok.

Thanks so much for the information.

Kena, I found great tutorials at the Google learning center. I viewed a number of them before my eyes became so heavy I had to give it up *yawn*.

Kathie, can you give me an idea how often adwords are updated? Is it only when new product becomes available?

Thanks!

Are you charging for the work after you learn or for training time? I generally don't charge for time spent in training because I believe I am getting something that I can keep, new knowledge. But once you know how to do it definitely charge your normal rate.

I check them about monthly for my clients, i.e. when I'm processing their accounts and invoicing them. I check to see how the clicks are happening and if I need to tweak anything or update the clickthru rates. Some might do it more often - depends on the client and their traffic I guess.

I agree! Especially if it's something that I can add to my list of services offered. But, if the client is willing to pay you for the training, that is awesome.

My client and I are doing a Joint Venture

Thanks for the help you guys. I'm just trying to figure out if this is a direction I want to follow. I love learning so I think I'll jump right in.

I couldn't justify charging for training time. I feel very fortunate the client is willing to train in the first place AND I'll be able to apply that training right away. So, onward!

I think you should charge an hourly rate, but maybe a little lower, half of what you normally charge since your client is going to provide the training process. However, you are using your time to learn it so that you can provide a service for him.

Learning SEO is quite a challenge but once you have the knowledge you will be able to add that to your resume and charge higher than you are for your regular services.

Good Luck

Robin
