Default What is your contingency plan?
Hello All,

Okay, I have a question for those of you who have been a VA for awhile (or those of you who are great at pre-planning). Do you have a contingency plan for times you are suddenly unavailable or for time you want to get away for vacations?

I am considering stepping up my offering for payroll services but am concerned I may never get away from my office for extended periods of time. Currently, I don't have payroll clients but I've had two recent inquires. I would love to hear what you have in place.

Thanks!

I usually take some long weekends for travel and let me clients know that I will be out of town. Most times these are holiday weekends so it is not an issue. They also know I can be reached by cell phone and always take my laptop and have internet access if an emergency should arise. I also have a wireless internet card so that I can check emails and messages while away.

We used to travel a lot and all over the world (before the baby ) and always just let our clients know when we would be out of office and if we would be available at all while we were traveling. I will admit that we always book hotels with WIFI and/or find an internet cafe at least once a day to check in on things, but we have sites like this to maintain as well as servers so can't really ever be 100% offline for long periods of time.

If we ever did need to be totally unavailable for some reason I would sub out what I could and hire someone qualified to handle the more technical things that we do on a weekly basis to just check in on the things I needed to check on (client sites, servers, etc.) in case of emergency.
