I hope I am putting this in the right place. I was wondering in anyone charges a deposit upfront for. I am especially wondering about this with new cleints. I am thinking as I do more business with someone I may not require a deposit. If so how much of a deposit would you require?

Also, I did some simple research through the directory of VAs and just looked their websites, at what was popular and which methods fit my needs.

Hello.. All of my new clients pay a deposit before I start then pay the rest after I have completed the project.. (If paid by check - I wait several days to allow it to clear the bank before I hand over the finished product).. Hope that helps.....

Yes, I require a deposit. It is different depending on the negotiated rate.
From all of the research I have done, I haven't ran across any VA's that didn't state a deposit requirement in their rates.

I require a minimum $100 deposit prior to starting any client work. I don't offer retainer packages, only by the hour. Their deposit is applied to their first invoice. If I do on-site work then payment is made in full at time of service and I don't require a deposit.

Most of my on-site work is just for office organization or similar projects, although I do have one older couple that I go to once a month and do the bookkeeping for their business because they just live a couple of miles from me.
