Default offering services in two currencies?
Hey

I was wondering what you would do...

I am thinking of having a dual-charge of my services. As I am going to do a flat-rate for all services to start off with, this will be pretty simple.

I am just querying to whether it's more sensible to get a flat-rate price (i.e. in euros) quoted against my hourly rate (FYI: it's €1.20 to £1 Sterling); OR to do the price conversion against the price conversion rate for the day that was the quote was carried out.

What would you do?? In my opinion it would be easier for me to do a simple flat rate in euros; but there has been a lot of talk recently that a lot of UK-based retailers have been accused of price-fixing (which is something that I'm NOT doing!!)... but then again, the price conversion could be good value for money some days, yet on others it'd be a complete rip-off.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience in working with dual-currency. Of course, I'd ask for all payment in pound sterling but having the euro conversion would mean that the market could be opened up for clients in other countries, i.e. ireland.

Cheers

I don't work with dual currency. I charge everything in US Dollars. I have yet to have an international client, but even if I did I would charge US Dollars. I use QuickBooks for my bookkeeping and I can only record in dollars.

Lia, I think for the sake of your own sanity I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible - single currency, single billing method....

Why make more work for yourself?

I've had clients in a few countries and always bill in U.S. dollars (the client's bank/Paypal account, etc. always does the conversion *for* them to their home currency)

I always invoice in AUD. It's too hard and I'm lazy.

I agree - keep it simple and stick with one currency. All my clients pay me in U.S. dollars, regardless of where they are or what their home currency is. I have a VA in Canada and pay her in Canadian dollars. Whatever the exchange rate is on the day the payment is submitted is what the client ends up paying.
