Default How Should Cold Calls For A Client Be Charged?
Hi Everyone,
I had a new client call me today! He would like me to do some cold calls for him on an ongoing basis. How would you charge? Hourly or by the call?
What do you all think?

Thank you.

Julie

Hourly - 15 minute increments. There is no way to know how long any given call will last...

I would do hourly too. Though there's a chance you might make more with per-call. But you won't know that until you've done some. Hourly will make tracking easier though.

I agree with the others, hourly in set increments would be my own preference.

Thank you everyone. That was my initial thought, just wanted to see what everyone else thought. Thanks for the input.

I would go for hourly plus comission if you're expected to make sales.

I had a chat with my attorney re:cold calls. He frightened me just a bit. If you make cold calls are you checking the number against the Federal "Do Not Call" list? I ask because he said that if I make a sales call to someone on that list, they can sue my client and (gasp!) they can sue me. I can only update info and can discuss my clients services if they bring it up first. According to the lawyer....
Anyone else heard this?
Tamara

This is one of the many reasons, I DO NOT DO COLD CALLS.. If you are concerned about this, one way to protect yourself (and you might want to run this by your attorney) is to let the client know that the calls you make must be vetted through the DO NOT CALL list. He must put it in writing that this is the case before any calls are made.

I offer this service as well. I charge hourly at my normal rate. However, as mentioned before, if you are calling the consumer market, you have to scrub the calling list against the DNC registry. If you go to their site, there was mention of how to register your self as a caller. I don't call the consumer market for this reason. If you are calling business, you should be fine.
