Default How do you accept payment?
I'm currently accepting payment via Paypal. How do you accept payment for services rendered ? I'm interested in a low fee option.

I take either PayPal (they can use a credit card or direct transfer from their bank through PayPal, which gives them flexibility of payment) or I will accept a business check. My clients understand that until a check has cleared THEIR bank (approx 10 days) I won't do further work for them unless they are an established client - established means 6 months of steady, non-returned payments. IF a check were to bounce, i would charge them a NSF fee ($39 dollars) and not take further checks from them and I WILL NOT hold checks "just until it will clear."

I have Paypal but have seen so many horror stories I haven't used it. I'm going to ask my bank manager about direct deposit.

I've been using Paypal for many years with no problems. But I have heard the stories about some who have had challenges so I've always made sure I don't hold large amounts in there - I usually withdraw once it gets to around $200 at a time so that the funds are in my bank account instead. I process many payments via Paypal every single month and have done so for at least 5 years but probably a lot longer than that.

I do have a merchant facility with my bank too which goes through www.eway.com.au and so people have the choice of paying by credit card direct, Paypal or EFT direct to my bank account. It's all done securely online.

I accept checks and PayPal from US clients and PayPal only for clients outside the US.

I accept PayPal and checks. Most of my client pay by check though which works for me so I don't have to pay too much in PayPal fees (which can be deducted on your US Taxes.)

I accept PayPal, cheques or money orders if necessary, but by far the most common is direct debit into my bank account. I set up a separate business account which has minimal fees (no monthly fees just for manual deposits such as cheques etc), so I have that account on my invoices. Paypal can be a bit annoying as you lose money on fees, but is very handy for international clients or even paying my subcontractors.

Marie, how did you get setup to do direct debit? Was it something that your bank offered?

As far as what I have now, I have a business Paypal account, but also am setup with Wells Fargo and authorize.net (got setup years ago with them for tax prep payments). With WF/authorize.net, I can take credit card information and process through authorize.net's terminal. I eventually want to add an online store (I'm a dealer for specific business-related "stuff") to my site, but I'm not sure if I'll stick with WF/authorize.net for this or not (I need to check out the fees involved and shopping cart options more thoroughly first). Or I might use Paypal, but need to check out their shopping carts.

Oops! Sorry to ramble.

I have been using Pay Pal since 2000 and I have had no problems with them. I am like Kathie, I do not leave more than 50.00 in my Pay Pal account and withdraw any monies over that amount. I did have someone get into my account once and Pay Pal immediately told me what happened and gave me back my money and arrested the guy that was doing it. When you are with Pay Pal for a while they get to know your buying and income habits and alert you when something goes whack-O. I have trusted them for many years and love the fact that I do not have to pay for bank fees on credit card machines and ATM fees. I can use my Pay Pal debit card any where so it is really a nice deal. I earn 1.5% on every dollar in my Pay Pal account as well and I believe you must have a business account to earn that percentage. But, make sure to check every option out before you make a decision on which way you want to go.

Cheers,
Andrea
