this article and posted it as a reply to another thread, but thought I'd put it in here on it's own as well....it's such a great, real-world look at how hard it can be dealing with invoicing issues - it features real stories from independent professionals who've dealt with the worst of the worst when it comes to getting paid.

That whole site is great actually, kind of sad they no longer update it with new material - but I'll tell you when I'm in a tough or touchy business/client situation there is always a good bit of advice there in their archives; it's especially nice because the articles are written by freelancers in all areas and industries and they've all been-there-done-that so can relate to and articulate the reality of doing business as a freelancer.
