Oh yes, in my book this is a must have for any business no matter how small. It's the know-how, and your method or way of doing things. Ranks high up on my list of milestones to achieve, and of course the Operations Manual is a living, working document. It's essentially never really complete. It grows with you.

I am new to this forum. However, I have an operations manual from the sales and marketing business as well as the medical billing business that I previously owned.

I have since researched and have begun putting together an operations manual for my new va business. I also have 3 women who will be coming on board.

It is my intention to create my manual and put into a pdf file with samples, instructions and processes as well as to provide a complete directory to coordinate with the VA private online section of my website for my VA's to log into.

I am still in the planning stages of my business, but I plan to set up a policy and procedures manual as I get going. I believe it is important for consistency and as a guideline for those "grey" areas.

I have an operations manual. Having been in business over 10 years, I have to focus to keep it updated. Ten years ago, nothing in my business was "in the cloud" and I did a lot with "gotomypc.com". Now, almost all I do is "in the cloud". Keeping the document updated takes dedication. My document is an internal manual with a portion that I send to subcontractors. I do not send it to clients.

I haven't heard of an operations manual, which I gather is different from a policy & procedures manual. Does one start by stating for example, the proper way to answer the telephones, format used for typing letters, etc?

I don't have one yet an it does not look like I need one at this point just like I do not need a business plan right now but if my business starts to get big, I think I may need these.
