Default Billing a client overseas
I decided to also offer my services to small import/export businesses in the US and Latin America. What would be the best way to go when billing a customer in another country for your services? I'm afraid they might not pay after the service is done. Can you tell me about your experiences with working with international customers?
Thanks!

I don't have that type of experience. But all my clients either make a deposit or pre-pay, which would solve that problem, no matter where they are.

I have several overseas clients. Dealing with them is no different than someone in your same country. I have all of my clients sign a contract and pre-pay upfront via PayPal.

If they seem reticent because they have never worked with a VA before then I will sometimes ask them to pre-pay a deposit for 5 hours and then once they are confident I am reliable and capable they have no trouble paying the rest.

I agree with Shari. Check out the SBA office in your area. There is usually a person specializing in Import/Export businesses. They are very knowledgeable and are everywhere throughout the U.S. Also, check with SCORE. They have people who are experts on Import/Export laws and can guide you to not get scammed.

I would treat them like any other client. When I first start with a new client, I get a deposit and a signed contract, if there is not problem with that then I start the project and bill them as normal afterwards.

But I do agree with what the others have said, do research on the company you will be dealing with.
