Default Virtual PBX
Has anyone here used a virtual pbx system and if so, how did you like it and which ones are good?

Thanks

Hi Julia

I don't use a virtual pbx system yet. But I heard of a few options like GotVMail
Ring central is a good one too. I am probably going to go with ring central in the future once my business starts to pick up.

I have RingCentral & really like it. I don't have a client base established yet, but I've been practicing with the different features & love it's ease of use. My fax & voicemail is an 800#, which I really like.

I use onebox and I love it. I even convinced my client to use it instead of purchasing an elaborate phone system.

Hi Julia,

I have RingCentral too. Like Melissa, I have been playing around with its many functions.

With RingCentral, you can put callers on hold and then transfer them to another extension or an outside phone number. The built-in features seem to be good too, like music on hold and the fact that you can set your business hours. During your business hours, your phone can ring if you want it to..then as soon as your business hours are over, calls go directly to voicemail. There are many settings via RingCentral, I have only scratched the surface.

One minor issue I have had though is that the very first time I tried to use call transfer...it didn't work. I called tech support, the technician walked me through the steps to transfer, then said "Yeah, look at that, it doesn't work". It took about a day for them to fix, but now all is up and running. I am very excited and can't wait to put it to good use! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me via PM.

I really like gotVmail, and I looked at ring central too. But I need something that does not charge by the minute. I need something with unlimet monthly minutes per month. Any suggestion

Hi Kandice,

Most brick and mortar offices today use a PBX phone system, which is a system that allows for multiple phone extensions/lines. Chances are if you worked in an office that had more than 3 extensions/lines, it was a PBX system (there are other systems that allow for extensions, but PBX is most common). With an in-office PBX system, there is usually a box that is connected directly to the incoming phone lines (usually housed in a closet, so you may have never seen it). The box makes is possible for all of the extensions/lines to work on one system (I don't know the specifics, but I hope you get the idea).

I currently have RingCentral and utilize their Virtual PBX system. I have the ability to utilize extensions, music on hold, and many other features the PBX system allows, all without having a big ugly box in my home. The system is all through their servers/website. I have been extremely happy with the system so far. I have this system because I plan on offering answering services to my clients, but for a VA that only needs a phone to call clients and have them call in to him/her, a one line phone is a great way to go.

I hope I answered your question!

This is really cool. I had planned on using my cell phone (because we have no landline) and signing up for eFax eventually - but this is soooo much better and not much of a price difference.

And my new Dell setup (should be here today!) has a monitor w/ internet phone capabilities!

Thanks for sharing.....
