Default VA Technology
This has probably been answered a few times here, but I am new, and I need to ask. I am trying to work out the phone technology and software needed to make my VA business work. I have been reading some of the threads here have understood some of it.

I need to create a system where I can assign a telephone number to each customer. When a call comes in for that customer, it will be identified on my computer screen. I will then be able to either take a message or patch the call through. I assume this is done via a mixture of VOIP and specialist software. Can someone explain to me if they have a system like this and which companies they use and how it all works.

At the moment, my biggest concern is around the technology, the software and hardware I need, how it make it all work cost effectively.

Thank you.

You could use Skype - you can purchase yearly phone numbers for $60 each and everything can be managed in the business center.

I have been told by others that you can't have several number son skype. I would need a system that allowed me to have several numbers so I could label each number by the client.

I'd suggest looking at either Grasshopper or RingCentral, both can do what you are looking for and usually for one flat monthly rate.

I am not familiar with Grasshopper -- but second the vote for RingCentral. Good luck!

This is where you need to head with Skype and it'll save you a bundle over the other services offered right now: http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/busi...er/#t_overview

It allows you to have a central area where you can manage all your business stuff related to Skype. You can allocate online numbers to employees so they'll each have a direct line. You can also purchase calling subscriptions to assign to each as well.

Thanks for the info. I have a subscription to Skype and was not aware of this offering.

I am following this thread religiously because I am in need of similar services. I have been doing some research, but am looking forward to the input from other VAs.
