Default Skype - FREE telephone solution
Skype - There is no substitute for Skype - we can hold conference calls with international clients for *free*, and send files, images, and invoices during the live chat. Skype has decreased our telephone bills by over $200 per month.

We use the Spype-In (and accompanying free voicemail addons) for pennies a month. That way, our clients can reach us easily even when we're out of the country, which is most of the time

Skype claims now that it supports conference calls with 9 participants. I've seen 10 done but the quality of the call drops off after 8 or 9. That's why my needs forces me to opt for other web conferencing appliance where everyone can join meetings in seconds and can use it for any need from collaboration, seminars, training to remote support..

I do not have the Skype-in. But Skype out has been fabulous for me!

My husband and I upgraded to Skype Pro and I honestly think it might replace our home phone. If you get the Skype-In number, it works quite well!

Now this is an interesting topic! We have been looking at getting Skype-in (using the upgrade to Skype Pro) ourselves. I would be interested to learn about how you find the quality of voice calls (one to one mainly or a conference call with a few others)? I have heard some people say the quality isn't great and that they would not use it as a main business number. I use Skype-out regularly and as you say Tess the File Transfer allows you to exchange documents etc., while you chat. I definitely couldn't live without it now. It's also great that you can have quite a few numbers with Skype-in (is it up to 10?) in whatever location you wish, by and large. The cost is minimal too which has to be a bonus and now most cell & home phones have a Skype function too so you can receive your Skype calls from anywhere, not just from your PC.

Really would love to hear the low-down from anyone who uses Skype-in for business ... including the ease of set-up, the answering facility, etc.

Also am I right in thinking that you are better off to subcribe to Skype Pro first ... as this then allows you to get a huge discount when buying your Skype-in number?

Thanks!

Want to hear something crazy? Skype's call quality is better than our current home phone's quality, which is provided as part of our high-speed cable Internet package. It's clear, and as long as everyone on the call has high speed Internet (or you're calling a landline or cell number) there is no delay at all. If someone happens to be using dial-up or a REALLY slow computer, you'll experience a bit of a delay, but it's not bad.

As far as setup, I use my bluetooth cell phone headset to connect wirelessly to my laptop. I was using my built-in mic, but it picks up background noise, so now I use the Jawbone. Changing the Skype settings to "headset" is super easy.

And yes, it is super-cheap. We paid something like $30 USD for the entire year for Skype Unlimited, and the Skype-in number is around $20 USD.

The only real issue I see is that some services aren't offered in some places as they are a UK based company. Their website is a little hard to navigate, but once you get tot he right place, you're golden!

I really hope this helps!

P.S. The only reason we're going to have to keep our home phone is for our security system. Plus it's good to have a backup phone (in case something happens to our cell phones) for dialing local emergency numbers. You can't do that through Skype.

When you call someones landline via skype, what shows up on that persons caller ID? just the skype number or your business name and the number? I'm thinking about signing up for the skype pro.

Hmmm, good question - I think it shows up as just 'incoming call' or 'unavailable' (?) but I honestly don't know that for sure - I don't have caller ID here on our landline or I'd check it out and let you know

Like Brianna, the only reason we even have a landline is because we have another service bundled with it - otherwise we'd JUST use Skype - which I'm sure is exactly WHY landlines are bundled with everything under the sun these days!. They have these cool little phones now too, and you don't even have to be online for them to ring through.

I just read on Skype that the Skype Pro plan offers transfer call...has anybody used this? Basically I am looking for a solution in which someone can answer a phone call, and transfer to someone else. I have to read more into this, but if anyone has this plan and uses the transfer call feature, I would love to hear about it!

It varies but it usually comes up like this: 000-012-3456

It never shows the actual phone number of the person calling.
