How is the quality of calls? Do you get a lot of cutting in and out during a call?

I don't have any trouble hearing people. But because I use an external microphone there is always a lag of about 3 seconds. I would need to upgrade my computer to not have that lag since my computer doesn't have an internal microphone.

I am not familiar with Vonage, but utilize Skype for my business calls. I have my own personal phone number, voice mail, notification on my cell/email when a voice mail message is left - I can check voice mails on my cell phone but can't dial using the Skype number on my phone. I think you need Verizon to do that - I have Sprint.

My subscription is yearly and it is significantly less expensive than other phone plans.

I've used the service for both incoming and outgoing calls without significant problems. I use a plugin headset w microphone, rather than a wireless set up.

Give it a try!

One last question for me, Does anyone know if you can forward the calls to another phone that uses an extention? For instance, I would like to have my skype call forwarded to can another phone but to reach me an extension has to be dialed.

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA5...irstPage=false It doesn't really look like it based on the set up for SKYPE, they need a direct number, you would also need to subscribe as forwarding calls to a non skype number would cost you money. You might want to try Google Voice though, you can forward messages directly to your email for free.

Thanks Calliope. I didn't think so. When I researched it I gathered that I couldn't but wasn't sure if I was missing something or not understanding it the way I should have been.

What Skype credit is - is that you "prepay" for placing telephone calls from your computer. That is, if you wish to call a phone number, say a client's telephone number in France, you use your Skype credit. However, if you place a Skype-to-Skype call to that same client, the call is free. Each of you has to agree to accept being connected on Skype (sort of like connecting on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).

The prepaid credit deal is very much the same thing as purchasing a pre-paid calling card. You buy a certain amount of "credit minutes" and once you use them up, you need to replenish if you want to keep making those calls. I used this for two years while my daughters were studying in the UK. I couldn't have lived without it! But the CRITICAL point to remember is that SKYPE is free when making skype-to-skype calls. You only use your credits when you call from your Skype account to another TELEPHONE number.

I love Skype and I encourage everyone I associate with to use it. I like dealing with people face to face. (And believe me, once you establish a relationship, it is not awkward at all to speak via video -- it's fabulous! Just keep a little makeup kit handy to throw on some lipstick -- just because )

There is also an add-on to Skype called Pamela which allows you to record your calls. I'm just throwing that in, as it is not free after 15 minutes of recording. But it is useful for certain clients who need to record statements. And now I'm getting off subject ... You can see I love Skype!

Patty -
I understand you like Skype! [grin] I'm considering it as the business phone in and out.

Thanks!

You also need Skype credit if you plan to forward your calls - for instance mine is set up to forward to my mobile so I pay for the cost of the Skype to mobile part.
