Default Ringcentral Question(s)
Hello,
I am looking at Ringcentral as my business phone but have a few questions for those who currently use this service.
1. Do you have a "special" headset you use to make/rec've calls or do you just have your calls fwded to a land line or cell phone?

2. My laptop does not have a jack that I guess the headsets sold at most computer and office supply stores sell. On all my computers I have the 3 jacks 1) for head set (like to listen to movie) 2) one for a microphone jack and the third one looks like to listen to music.

3. I have several plantronics headsets but they work with a regular phone. I do have a regular phone jack on my computer that allows me to plug this in (it is the jack I would use if I used dial up). My question is if anyone has tried and/or is using this to connect a regular phone or headset to.

I would like to be able to receive and make calls from my computer and don't always want my calls transferred to my cell. A c/s person at Ringcentral said yes this would work, then said no it wouldn't...etc. she went back and forth several times and I don't feel like she really knew what she was talking about.

I really need to set up my phone by Monday morning so any feed back and/or different suggestions anyone has I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
LoriLee

I bought a Skype headset at Wal Mart for like $15. You can buy headsets that have either a USB plug or they have a dual plug where you insert one in the headphone and one in the mic jack.

I just have my calls forwarded to my cell phone though.

I don't remember where I got my headset, but it also has the dual jacks on it for mic and headphone. These types of headsets are pretty easy to find. I probably got mine at Circuit City or Best Buy.

I have a Skype account and I believe there are phones made to connect to your computer set up for these types of things but I haven't really looked into that yet. I've been using my cell phone as my main business phone right now. I haven't advertised my Skype # yet. Still trying to figure out the best way to work all that myself since I want to be able to answer my business line with my business name and having my business line set as my cell phone number I can't do that. If I forward my Skype # to my cell phone, I still can't tell what actually would be business related calls.

So I appreciate you starting this thread, it might help me get some answers I'm looking for as well.

I use a plain headset/mic I bought at Wal-Mart. It has two plugs that use the corresponding spots on my laptop or my PC. BUT - I have my account set to forward to my cell phone. When a number comes up I don't recognize I simply answer "Hello! This is Robin." I have an announcement with Ring Central that thanks the caller for contacting Robin's Desktop.

I'm not in the habit of switching back and forth between using the PC and cell. I don't think is't a big issue though. If the headset is plugged in you should be able to simply answer if from your desktop. Mine rings at the computer and I just let it go to the cell phone. I don't make calls from Ring Central, however. Since my cell phone has nationwide service included I don't want to pay for outgoing calls.

Most of my calls are local so my Ring Central account gets a workout from the fax portion of the service.

Thank you for all your input. I knew there had to be a headset that connected into both the mic and other headset hole. The guy at Staples looked at me like I was crazy... :-) I'll go to wallmart.

Thanks again,
LoriLee

Well, that's probably because it's not a specialty item. It's just a plain headphone/mic that you can pull off any shelf. The only problem I have is remembering which end goes in which spot! I get them backwards all the time. hee hee

My son claims that if I were to spend the $$ on one designed for 'gamers' I would have a better quality headset, but I have no reason to do that. My plain one does a fine job. If I were offering recording services I might want to.
