Re: Receiving Faxes online
I use TrustFax and have never had a problem with it. When someone "faxes" their document to me, it arrives in my email inbox as a PDF. The "subject" field is their fax number, so I usually can tell who it's from right away. By saving the PDF to my computer, the fax never hits paper and I've saved a tree I chose TrustFax over the free services because I can send outgoing faxes of any document. If I'm "faxing" a Word file, I just upload it to TrustFax as is and it is included in my outgoing fax ... no need to print & scan on my end .... love it!

Re: Receiving Faxes online
Excellant information and with so many choices how does one decide which is the right service to go with. This is all so exciting and so many things to do all at the same time. Thank you for all your help and suggestions... with another thing added to my to do list I am sure some day I will start my company.

You need to know your faxing needs. Online fax providers have different plans and different rates. Some gives you cheap sending and cheap receiving while the others have slightly higher sending rates but incoming are free. I don't use fax that much so Onesuite Fax is the right choice for me. No monthly plans means I only pay for my actual usage.

Re: Receiving Faxes online
Thank you for your suggestion I will review all the plans, however since I am new and do not know my faxing needs at this point in time that seems like the best route for me as well.

Re: Receiving Faxes online
I already have an e-fax account, so it seems a good idea to keep that. Hopefully my business will grow, then I will know my sending needs.
Thanks for all the info, saves lots of research time!

Deb - I was reading over the comments about faxing on line and had a quick question. I'm just getting started so I wondered what the advantage is to faxing a word file to TrustFax instead of sending it as an attachment via e-mail. Thanks.

The clients know that they need to call first so that I can turn on the fax machine. Also, they know that if they send a document to my "myFax " account that makes me go over my account limit, they are charged the additional fee. Some times I do just scan documents in to desktop but not often, Its easier for me to "roll" over to my fax machine pop the doc in and hit send (All my clients that I fax regularly are on speed dial in my land line fax) I load the doc hit 2 buttons and I am done !
I would suggest to have both. A 3 or 4 in one copier is a MUST have in any office home or off site location !

In reading over your comments I had a quick question. Please bear with me since I am new to this. How do you determine if your client has made you go over your limit on your "myFax" account - do you limit the number of pages they can send to you per month? Thanks.

I use eFax. Its easy and cuts down on my paper usage. You may have to scan documents but your client sends faxes as usual

Re: Receiving Faxes online
I use RingCentral. With RingCentral not only can I send and receive efaxes, I can use the same number for my business phone number. This way, if you do not utilize that many minutes for faxing, you are not wasting money. (You get so many minutes each month-depending on the plan you picked-and you can use those minutes for voice conversations or faxes.) With my monthly account I have a fully automated phone system, with extensions, and I can send and receive faxes. Also they have a “RingOut” service included that lets you call from your “Office” phone number (your RingCentral number) when making calls from your home or cell phone. It really works well for my business.

Another service I previously used for efaxes is GoDaddy. They are my hosting company. They worked well for efaxes, but they lacked to voice phone component that you get with RingCentral, which is why I switched my service.

You might want to check with your website hosting company, they may also offer an efax / fax through email service.
Note to the poster asking about their clients who send them documents: Your clients do not need to scan documents to send them to you; they can simply fax them from their regular fax machine. Efax accounts accept faxes from any fax machine (physical or virtual) and then send the faxed documents to your email.
Good Luck,

Re: Receiving Faxes online
I have a multifunction/ fax machine as well as a virtual account with Fax.com. I no longer "paper" fax anyone, ever! It's such a waste of resources. I don't mind scanning documents, usually scan to PDF format, into my computer. It allows me to have access to digital copies of the documents that can reviewed, edited, and dispersed at a moments notice via different medias and locations. I've had to send documents that were faxed to me to another person via email from my phone while I was on the road. It also saves on filing and storage issues as well, I can't stand the clutter of paperwork. The people on the other end of the fax will not know the difference between a virtual fax and a traditional fax. They will send/ receive as they normally do. Which is great if you get someone that is unsure of, and refuses to use, something "different".
Fax.com has a free trial offer then it's @ $10 a month. I have a toll free number and there's unlimited sending/ receiving, email notification... The only thing I noticed is you may have to split large files/ documents up into separate faxes. I think the files get to large to send through the gateway. A similar problem with email accounts, even those that allow larger files. It was only an issue once and that was when we were faxing all of the documents for home purchase back and forth!

Re: Receiving Faxes online
Do any of the online fax sites let the client fax to you with a regular fax machine? A post a few pages back in this thread said that clients had to scan the document and save as an image. I couldn't tell if that was just one specific one she was talking about or all online fax sites.
Thanks, all!

I looked in to myfax. Pretty much the same as the others. They let me try a test/sample fax from them to me. Worked good, looked fine.

Re: Receiving Faxes online
I have myfax and it works great. My clients DOES have a fax machine and I receive faxes just fine. I would think the client would only have to scan documents in if he didn't have a fax machine.
