Default Question regarding fax items
Question regarding fax items. I dont have a fax at home because I am just starting what do you suggest if a client wants to send you receipts to keep track of his expense from his business checking account. He wants to send me his statments but I dont think thats a good idea to keep proper track of his expenses. I suggested sending me a copy of his receipts. Any suggestions or ideas?

I did bookkeeping for a number of years. I would suggest getting copies of both the receipts and the statement. It is much easier to reconcile the accounts if you have everything. If you don't want to get an efax. Have him mail the copies to you to or email the copies to you.

I have an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/fax that cost about $250 (and they are probably cheaper now than when I bought mine). That might be cheaper than paying for an efax.

I appreciate the input. Your are right it probably is easier to just get an all in one machine to avoid having to pay for efax.

Would you client be willing to scan in his statements and receipts and just email the scans to you?

I really doubt it. They are not very tech savy. I just want to make it as easy as possible but I really don't want a fax machine. lol.

What about MyFax? It isn't very expensive and seems easy enough to use.

I use Ring Central which is $10 per month for a virtual fax line, and faxes come straight to my computer.

Another idea for receipts is a service called Shoeboxed.com They're a great intermediary for receipts and will do the categorizing and such for you.

If they're not very tech savvy, why not have them send everything to you, then you can organize and scan, and send the originals along with a CD/DVD of the scans back to the client for their records. This is probably the easiest for the client, although more time for you (and more billable hours).
