I do see what you're saying, Janine. I think, however, it won't be an overnight change. More gradual...like the emergence of email. 10 years ago we communicated mostly by postal mail and telephone. Then email slowly became the norm-today it is common to communicate by email. Trends are now moving towards friends, family and business associates connecting on social media sites. I must say, I have the tendency to write looong messages, so for someone like me--it might be a plus. I'd be forced to get to the point or simplybe moved to pick up the phone and call someone. Now how cool would it be if the disappearence of email made people pick up the phone? Now that would be a change for the better, IMO.
I do customer service for a client and rather than respond to an email, I'll sometimes pick up the phone and call to help a customer that way. It's easier and oftentimes the response I get is "Wow, it's nice to know there really is another person on the other side willing to help me out."
So long story short, change will come--we probably won't notice it because it will be gradual...but will almost certainly have the tried and true methods of contact at our fingertips.
