For those of you using residential lines, how do you bill your company? Thanks!...Maryella

I have a cell phone and use Google Voice as my "land line". Calls are free within the US. Worth looking into.

Best,

I second Jeanette's recommendation about Google Voice. I've used it for about a year. Unfortunately, it's no longer free where I'm at when you call US & Canada. But I believe if you're still on those 2 areas you can still take advantage of it. So for now, my only alternative is Skype.

Does anyone know anything about Google Voice? I hear quite a few people talking about it and would like to learn more.

I gathered some good tips here and will check into Vonage. I use MagicJack for my business however as someone mentioned,it is sketchy and sometimes problematic..drops calls and static. yikes.. I will check into Vonage bec i like the idea of forwarding that phone # to my cell phone w/o having to give out my cell#. thanks for this post and wish you well in your VA business.

I was wondering the same because I dont have a home phone. For those of you that use Skype, do you use Skype Business Version or just the free regular skype? I'd like to get a number just for the business with voicemail. Do you buy skype credit or pay for a subscription? Also, does anyone use a prepaid cell phone as the main line for the business? That's another option i was considering but I'm not sure if it's a good one.

EDIT: You know what, I jsut realized that Skype actually sells cordless phones for use with their service. At first I was a little weary of using skype becasue I thought that meant I would have to leave skype running and leave my computer on all the time but apparently with their cordless phone, you don't. You're internet connection needs to be on all the time but that's it. I think I may go that route.

I use Google Voice for both of my businesses - you choose a number you wish to use from the selection offered, set up to ring either Google Talk (I do this when I'm working and want my hands free, using a headset), or a specified number(s). When I'm out of the office it will ring to my cell or you can set it up as your answering machine - will then email you a transcription of the missed call along with caller ID. I love it!

We use Evoice which is a virtual VOIP. Gives you a nice professional feel, including a personal greeting done by a voice actress. We love it and it allows us to be mobile at all times.

We use our cell phone for everything, especially since we don't have to change that if we move. Right now, we're in between placed, staying in an extended stay hotel until we find a place. I also have Skype and Google Talk which I have not utilized much.

I'm thinking of either using Google Voice of Skype. Now my question for you ladies...

1. Does Google Voice sell cordless phones to use with their service? Or would it be possible to use some kind of VOIP cordless phone that is compatible with it? and

2. I was doing some research and it seems that you can forward GV calls to Skype but what I if I want to make outgoing calls using my Skype cordless phone? Can I use my GV number to make outgoing calls without also having to buy a Skype phone number?

In the interest of savings money, I'm looking for the cheapest options since I'm just starting out. I dont want the GV # forwarded to my cell phone because I think it's very uncomfortable to have to hold a cell between my ear and my shoulder so I would prefer to have an actual cordless phone that is compatible with either GV or Skype.
