Default Outlook 2007
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but here it goes:

I'm trying to set up my website and am also trying to set up my email. I have Outlook 2007 which is supposed to host my email address. when I go to set up a new account however, it won't let me and keeps asking for the internet service provider password? what is this? I thought I could just create my own password...and my computer doesn't have a password..please help! I still don't have an official email yet

Are you talking about the new Windows Mail that took over for outlook? I have Vista so I have Windows Mail. It does ask you for an email address and password in order for it to basically re-route it to your computer. I don't think I've ever heard of Outlook or Windows Mail hosting your email address. You might need to go somewhere like Go Daddy (for your own biz address) or hook up a yahoo or gmail address to your computer. I think that would be the only way to do it. Good luck!

When I set up my Outlook email, I had to do so through my internet provider which is the cable company. I was able to create the account online through Road Runner and this is where I chose the password. Then, when I went into Outlook to set up the email addresses I had designated in Road Runner, this is the password I input. I don't know who your ISP is but you might want to check with them about the password.

when you set up your mail through outlook you need to put in the password you were given for your email via your ISP

For example if you have a hotmail account then it's the password you use to log in. I have an account with pipex, and they provided me with a password when I signed up.

Does that make sense? X

Kelly is right. If you don't know it, your email service provider can provide you with that information. You will also need to know your logon User Name (usually your email address), the Incoming mail server (POP3), and the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to complete the set up. All of these should be provided by your provider. We have Cox Internet and a search on their website provided me with the information I didn't already have.

This very problem nearly caused me to throw my notebook on the floor!

I have high-speed cable Internet access. For no other reason than just because, I am required to have an email account with the cable company [Suddenlink] in order to ship email from robinsdesktop.com through their servers to my desktop. Suddenlink did not send a notification to me when this became their standard, so I went for almost a week trying to figure it out. In the add account mine looks like this:

Mail Server
Incoming mail server POP3: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com (Yahoo is my domain host)
Outgoing mail server SMTP: smtp.suddenlink.net (Suddenlink is my Internet Service Provider)

Outlook doesn't "host" it retrieves. Your email will remain on your domain hosts server until Outlook draws it down. You also have to make sure you don't check the box that leaves copies on the server, unless you have a reason to. (Under "more settings, advanced") My notebook is set to leave mail on the server, but that is by design. Since I travel with my notebook I don't want to lose valuable email if I drop it or it is stolen or something. My desktop PC draws down all my email.

Hi Caroline,

Your question seems a bit vague for me.
1. Where is your website hosted - your own server or by a provider?
2. Outlook 2007 does not provide hosting for anything. It has to be configured to collect emails you have already set-up through your website or any service provider of your email account.
3. When you set-up your email account, the credentials and password you used will be the ones you need to set-up Outlook 2007.
4. What is the operating system of your computer? You should ensure your computer is configured to have firewall enabled, computer password enabled and anti-virus enabled which can be Windows Defender.
5. When you say an official email, if you have a domain and website, that should provide your email address. It will have to be configured as well.

Hope this helps.
Grace

Are you trying to have Outlook create your email address? If so, I don't think even 2007 version creates your email address for you. You generally have to already have one that can be used through Outlook 2007. I've got 2007 version as well. It will support just about any type of email address you already have, but it can get complicated setting up some of the ones hosted by other websites. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my webpage hosted email to come through Outlook 2007 without having it forwarded to a different email address that works in Outlook.

I think we have given our best answers but the initial question may need clarification. It's too vague. Outlook doesn't host anything.

Search your website host [i.e. Yahoo, Google, etc] for information on POP3 accounts. Sounds to me you've missed a couple key pieces of information.

You have to tell Outlook where to go to find the email. Unless you have a dedicated server at home where you are doing all your own web pages and email, the company you signed up through has a computer [server] that holds your email for you.

Get on the phone with someone who can walk you through the steps.
