If you own your own domain, and have email accounts under that domain, then I have a solution for managing those accounts (making configuration and settings simple), both in Microsoft Outlook and elsewhere.
There’s a service offered by Windows Live called Windows Live Admin Center. This service makes it possible for your website visitors to create email addresses under your domain. (For example, I could visit your website and create my own email account
GIRLCitizen@yourdomain.com) It’s a marketing “tool” for both you and Windows Live.
Personally, I have never used the service for this purpose. So,
setting this aside for now, let me tell you about its other features and how it solves the problem of configuring email accounts in Microsoft Outlook. (All versions.)
Basically, using the Admin Center service means changing your current domain/email settings to redirect email
thru your current host/provider
to Windows Live. By doing this, Windows Live becomes the final email host. More importantly, your email accounts will no longer be
POP accounts, but will become
HTTP accounts. (Herein lies your solution!)
HTTP accounts are quick, automatic and EASY to set up in Outlook. With an HTTP account you don’t have to configure anything, just click that it is an HTTP account and Outlook does the rest. Also, because the account is now handled by Windows Live it is particularly well suited to integrate with Outlook.
Other great features about the Live Admin Center service are:
1. You get up to 500 FREE email accounts under your domain. (If you need more just ask.) Usually, only one, or just a few email accounts are included with a domain or hosting. If you want more you have to pay for them. Using Windows Live Admin Center means you can turn that one free account into 500 free accounts. Plus, every email account you create is fully customizable and managed by you. (Including passwords, ect.)
2. You can check your email accounts at two popular, easy-to-remember locations – Windows Live, or Hotmail (MSN).
3. You get ALL the features of a Hotmail or Windows Live email account. (Not just the features your original host/provider may offer.)
4. Every email account you create is a NetPassport to the Windows Live Services - most of which are FREE.
Services like . . .
- Windows Sky Drive - 25G of FREE online storage
- Windows Live WorkSpaces – File Sharing
- Office Live - A free domain and hosting, business applications and more.
Just to name a few.
I'll admit, the instructions on how to change your domain settings may seem scary, or a bit technical at first. But, once you get started, things will fall into place. (Just follow the instructions closely.) You can do it!
If you like using Outlook, then you’ll like how this service makes setting up your accounts SO EASY. You'll also like how using this service makes creating and managing all the email accounts under your domain quick and hassle-free.
