Default long distance
I am wondering what you all use for long distance? I am looking into Skype but if there is another company everyone uses I would love to know. Thanks

I have a set amount of minutes on my cell phone which I have been using for my business line. I also have free long distance on my home phone (verizon). I just downloaded skype after hearing so many positive things about it and I have to say it is a great alternative to traditional phone companies.

I have free unlimited long distance with my cell phone plan and on my home line I pay $10/mo for unlimited long distance through my local phone company.

yes traditionally but they keep inventing products to make skype easier to use. they have phones that can plug into your landline so you can choose to use skype or your land phone when you dial out. they have mobile phones available in europe too.

We do have a headset but you can also buy phones that work even when your computer is turned off. There are some listed at the Skype Shop here.

Our home phone is VOIP through our cable provider so we get free long distance in Canada and the continental US so I use that.

Oh, I just remembered a commercial I saw on tv not too long ago and darned if I've forgotten what it's called! I think it's called a smart jack or something like that (of course I could be totally wrong. I come from a telecom tech background and we had to test "smart jacks" that weren't the same thing). Anyhow, when you need to make a call, you just plug it into your desktop or laptop and dial away. I think it costs something like $19 per year and you can make local or long distance calls with it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about at all? Is this kind of like Skype?

I've never tried Skype, but I'm not real crazy about VOIP because if you try to do anything on your computer, it interferes with the phone connection like crazy. It's like talking on your cell in a low range area.
