Default GrandCentral by Google
Has anyone heard of (or used for that matter) the GrandCentral phone system? Apparently it was acquired by Google some time ago. I have an account there. It has some pretty neat features like 'announce' - where the person calling has to say their name, you can forward incoming calls to any number, you can configure 'custom' ring tones for your callers and so forth.

They are located at (I have no affiliation link or anything like that) http://www.grandcentral.com

I don't know at this point in time if they're accepting new accounts or not. Also this service is TOTALLY FREE. That's always a plus !

Thanks for the information. It looks interesting. However, right now it is in BETA and only people with an invitation from another GrandCentral member can participate. (Kind of like how Gmail started.) Do you have any spare invites? If so, I would be interested in joining.

Thanks

Thanks!
I wasn't sure if we're allowed to post our email address on this forum, so to be safe I didn't include it. I appreciate your offer. I have been impressed with most Google products.

Have a great day,

Hi jstgermain & mommonique!

We've heard a lot recently from grandcentral. We've tried to register and enjoy the services, but hasn't been possible, since we don't know anyone yet that could share an invitation with us.

Would it sound to bold if we ask you for one invitation? We'll be really grateful if you have invitations left would like to share one with us.

As one of the previous comments, I wouldn't like to post our email in this public area, but any of you can contact us by PMs.

Regards!

Mary and Luis

Hi there - as far as I know, they are presently not accepting any more invitations. It's a great service and I'm happy to send you an invite, but as I say, they won't let me!

Yes, I've read somewhere that they migt have blocked the option for members to send more invitations. So, it seems that I'll have to keep waiting for it to be open for everyone

I've heard it's a really good service.

Thanks anyway!

The last time I checked, Google is letting potential users sign up for a waiting list. If you sign up, Google is supposed to contact you when/if they decide to issue more numbers. I signed up for a number thru www.vumber.com. There are others out there too, just shop around.

I'm still on the Grand Central waiting list and I hope they can get the platform all squared away. Vumber is really nice. I made the mistake of giving out my private number on business cards in the beginning and received tons of calls from interested clients to Craigslist weirdoes and stalkers. Needless to say I had my number changed and signed up with Vumber and things have been much better since then. No more providing my private number when I can give the Vumber information instead.

It's been a year now since they stop accepting sign ups...not sure how you can sign up now. Google seems shifting their resources to something else as GrandCentral buzz died down dramatically over the past few months.
