Google Voice: A Great Resource For Virtual Assistants
I know that there was a similar thread about Google Voice, some time ago, but it has since been closed.
I just want to make sure that everybody know about this wonderful (and FREE) service!
it is packed with great features that allow you to do the following: know who is calling (even if you don't recognize the number in caller ID) by requiring the caller to state their name, which you then hear before deciding whether to accept the call; record customized voice mail greetings for groups, or even for individual contacts; and set the service to ring vertain phones at certain times, all with just a few clicks of your mouse.
My Google Voice number is the only number that I give out (for both clients and personal use), now.
I recommend that everyone consider using it! The only challenge is in getting all of your contacts to transition to this new number. Google Voice's "Help" section even gives you tip on how to do that!

Re: Google Voice: A Great Resource For VAs
I've been a huge Skype supporter - and still am. But I also have been seeing a lot on Google voice and am very curious and excited to check it out. I've been meaning to check out Google video chat as well. Thanks for posting and sharing. It made me realize that I really need to start checking out new things!

Patty:
You're welcome!
I know that there is a lot to be said for Skype, especially the video call feature. I wish that there was one application that combines all of the features of the different ones like Google Voice, Skype, etc.!

I had put a thread out awhile ago about using Google voice. I love it myself. Like you, I use this as my number for my client to contact me. I am also getting one of my clients to switch over for them, since they are just starting a business and have a very tight budget.

Use it, love it, and would recommend it. I also use Skype for my video chats or for those who are more comfortable on there.
I like that when you make a call you have the option of dialing through your voice number but using your handset. I am a walker and talker so this options allows me to move freely about while not giving out the phone number of the line I am on.

Re: Google Voice: A Great Resource For VAs
I love Google voice! I hadn't been using it much but since starting my business, it made sense to use it to be contacted by clients.
I have it linked to my cell phone and it is so much easier to distinguish clients from personal phone calls.

I use Google voice as well and set up a second number to take audio testimonials which I added to my blog.

Thanks for the recommendation! It seems like Google has their hand in everything nowadays. I'm definitely going to check this out.

Re: Google Voice: A Great Resource For VAs
I use Google Voice as my After Hours VoiceMail. It's a back up for me, when my office closes on the East Coast, my West Coast Client can call and leave a message. I check the voice messages every 45 minutes and return calls promptly. This voicemail operates Monday to Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., checkout how they're listed my website.

That's a cool idea, Janine! I will have to try that, myself!
