I was a Grand Central member, so when it converted, I got access to it. It's nice, I can give out one number to clients, set office hours, and have it call either home or cell depending on my location. It goes to voicemail the rest of the time.

Sounds like it is a great program. Especially since I do a lot of running around during the day. I could use this to transfer my calls to my cell.

When I read this I actually hoped for a small moment that it meant for those outside the US as well - sadly no! I love my Canadian roots, but I am not a fan of our technological distance from services available south of the border.

Will be watching in the next while to see how those of you who use it enjoy the service.

I started using Google Voice last week and so far, in addition to the call routing, I'm a big fan of the visual voicemail. It uses fully automated transcription to display each message in your account like an email. So convenient! You can automatically send it to your email or as a text message, too, if you find that useful.

(I just hope the automated transcription doesn't get *too* good, for our own sake!

I thought carefully about what phone number I wanted, and I chose a number that is local to where I'm currently living, since I want to keep my out-of-state cell phone number for now. This way, people who live near me don't have to pay long distance to call me from their home! It would be even better to have a toll-free number, but we can't register those with Google Voice yet. I hope that they start allowing it soon.

Google Voice can send free SMS too even to some foreign countries. Well, Gmail actually put back the free SMS feature but you need to activate it under the "Labs" tab.

I think Google voice works for VA's outside the US. They can have a free US number where a US client can call or leave a message. You need to get a Gizmo account so you can take advantage of free receiving and outgoing calls from and to US numbers.

I just learned that in celebration of Google Voice, Google has partnered with iPrint to offer 50,000 sets of 25 business/calling cards for free. Of course your design choices are limited and it prominently features your Google phone number, but still - it's free!

To get yours, just login to your Google Voice account and click the link at the bottom of the left-hand menu. Enjoy!
