This is not a new thing but just in case someone may not know I am listing it here. This is good also for clients that you may need to text to.

Type friend’s cell phone address into the “to” box in the header.

Providers listed below:

Verizon Wireless
[email]number@vtext.com

AT&T
[email]number@txt.att.net

T-Mobile
[email]number@tmomail.net

Sprint
[email]number@messaging.sprintpcs.com

This is a great reference to have the providers all listed in one place - thank you! There are times I would have love to have been able to text a client from my laptop - this will come in handy

This is really a great idea, thanks for taking the time to gather the information in one place. I think I am going to start using this more often as another way to communicate with the client!

If you guys have Gmail accounts you can also text your clients for free from your Gmail. You need to activate it though.

On your Gmail page, go to settings -> labs -> Then look for SMS and activate it.

To send SMS, hover your mouse over a contact on Chat (on the left pane) and click Video and more then Send SMS. If this is your first time to send SMS to that contact, it will ask you to put in the phone number. Replying to your message will show in your chat box with that person in your Gmail page.

Just make sure you state your name because the receiver will get a number he/she isn't familiar with.

Google Voice has a free SMS feature too, the difference are, with Google Voice, the receiver will get your own Google voice number. Also with Google Voice, you can send to other foreign countries (it never fail me sending to a Philippine mobile number, some says it can send to mobile numebr in Europe) though Google Voice says only works to a US number. With Gmail, only US numbers goes through.

You may want to check out Chikka.com too. Free SMS to US and UK and some handful of countries around the world.

This is awesome...I have a few friends who are texting fiends, but with my cell phone it takes me forever to type out a return text (which is irritating if I'm in the middle of work but need to make plans for later). I never knew you could text through email, and I will definitely be using this option! Thanks for pointing this out!

Does anyone know if Alltel also have this feature? Would be useful if they did.
