I have a fax program on my computer. As long as the 'puter is turned on, the fax 'signal' automatically answers the phone. Otherwise, the answering machine picks up. (I don't answer my phone unless caller id shows someone I want to talk to...)

It's not a requirement, but it helps. I use My Fax for incoming faxes and have a cheap fax machine for sending.

I use fax.com and I really like it. I just started my business and found nice to be able to fax from my email and recieve faxes to my email.

Or I can use the online fax console. The services is only $9.99 per month, I have already used it about 6 times since starting in late April. I like for "Cold" leads when only a fax number is available.

One other feature is that I can add attachments which are converted to fax mode.

I was looking to into fax services myself and I have always used efax or rightfax at my prior jobs. It's awesome because the faxes come in as a PDF to your email. If you are blackberry dependent, this enables you to see fax as soon as it comes in. Also i have found that when you get a four in one printer/copier/scanner/faxer the fax feature is the first to go and your machine never works the same afterwards.

I use my all-in-one for outgoing faxes because it's the quickest and easiest for me to use. I use eFax for my incoming faxes. I also have my computer set-up for faxing so if I'm sending something straight from my computer I can do it through the fax function or through my all-in-one without printing.

Your computer should have the fax capabilities built in if you have a modem. With that and the scanner you would be able to send and receive faxes if you needed to.

I send and receive a lot of faxes daily so using my all-in-one for sending and receiving through eFax works great for me. You can send through eFax but I don't like how that works.

I have an account with Onebox which is a virtual PBX system. For $20 per month I get a local phone number, a toll free number, an e-fax account, a voicemail system that forwards to my email and conference calling capabilities for up to 32 parties - no contracts. I have had this account for 2 years and it is wonderful. Another similar service is Ring Central.

Wow I may have to try out Onebox, the features seem to be just what I need and the fee is more than reasonable.

Like so many who have already posted I too have used efax.com and never had any problems with them but I also have a regular fax for those times I need to send a fax. I don't have a separate line for that since I have my number thru efax. I just change the phone wires when I want to fax something out.

I signed up for efax - haven't had a chance to use it as of yet. I've heard that it works pretty good.
