I use gmail mostly as some clients wants to use it for chat. I am checking my company's email (witch is not on gmail) on Outlook and have folders for each client and even for few bigger projects.
And gmail has cool labels and I use the a lot
On gmail and on Outlook I have rules and email goes right to the folders skipping the Inbox.
If you like to read... Getting Things Done by David Allen CHANGED MY LIFE. No really, it did... I don't use all of his advice. For instance, I have 10 emails in my box, but he challenged me to think of how I could implement his ideas against my own work style. I'm seriously not as lost in the email black hole anymore!
I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE xobni.com. It's an add on for Outlook. It's free, and it's "fun" seriously, I love learning the new things I can do with it. My favorite part is though, that it searches for email contacts in Linkedin and Facebook.
It also threads conversations and puts people in "groups". I'd definitely recommend it.

I use Outlook with rules to handle the routine/newsletter e-mail and folders for clients. The idea of using PDF files to archive e-mails from clients sounds great, thanks to everyone for the great ideas.
I was setting up Outlook 2007 and selected Microsoft Exchange instead of Internet Email and locked it up. I was told to unistall the program and then reinstall it. But, I do have Windows Mail and I will definitely try that email program.
