Some people say texting and Twitter have made email obsolete, but in truth, it’s still the awesome communications tool of choice for many of us. If any single technology rocketed us into the 21st century, surely it was email.
The convenience of email is unsurpassed, but it can become a burden if you find your messages piling up and your inbox jams with so many unread items that it depresses you to go there.
I’ll venture an educated guess, though: I bet those who have messy inboxes also have messy desks. Because an up-to-date inbox is no more than good organization in general. If the will is there, it can be done!
We’ll assume you have the requisite spam filters in place. Do you also have a series of folders for your mail? Do you set ‘rules’ in your email client, so messages from selected addresses go to selected folders? Do you have a system for reading your mail: like go in twice a day and get new messages organized, read, filed away, whatever is appropriate? [...]
