Default Eliminate your local & long distance phone bills
Hi everyone!

Found out about some information that I thought could benefit all of you, regarding paying exorbitantly high prices for your local and long distance phone bills, which drive us all crazy.

"It's plug and play," said Dan Borislow, a Philadelphia native and inventor of MagicJack. "The jack is $40 and that includes your first year of free local and long distance and then it's $20 a year thereafter," Borislow said.

Please visit the link below for more information.

So much great technology coming out these days - have you tried this yourself Mary Ann?

When we called to get our wireless internet connection set up, becaues of the area that we live in, we actually *had* to get a landline setup - we'd not had any intention of having a phone in the house aside from our VOIPs but now we've got one. I just turned OFF the int'l long distance and we use Skype for anything and everything that isn't local.

Wow! That's pretty cool! I have two voIP lines and I think they are great! Once in a while, there is a glitch but I get such a great value! It's great that the technology is there and we're not getting the short end of the stick by Ma Bell!

That's amazing Mary Ann. Thanks for sharing that. I use Skype for all my long distance calls but my husband is still very computer illiterate (hard to believe I know!) Anyway, trying to get him to use Skype for phone calls is a lesson in futility. However, the magic Jack would be very simple for him to comprehend and would save $ on my phone bill. I think I'll look into this and you never know what my dear hubby might find under the xmas tree this year.

A voIP is a "voice over internet protocal" line, which means that you "talk"over your computer line instead of your landline. The only downside is that if you loose your internet connection, you loose your voIP, the upside is that I pay around $20.00 per month for unlimited local and long distance!

Tess

I have not tried Magic Jack yet, as I am still under my one year contract with my ISP. However, prior to switching to DSL, I was using Voicenet, a VOIP provider I discovered in the late 1990s, which only charged 5 cents a minute, 24/7, for both local and long distance phone calls. I think international calls were a couple pennies more per minute.

Yes, I too love all the great technology that is out these days!

Thank you Shari and you are most welcome!

I'm sure your husband isn't the only one in this world who is still computer illiterate. But patience is a virtue and he will come around sooner or later, providing his "want" to learn it.

Surprises - don't you just love'em! LOL

Hi Maryann,
I saw this last night and have decided to give it a try. Sounds like it can be pretty helpful. I will let everyone know how it works.
