Default Do I really need a fax line?
I have a fax line that I've been paying for since last summer (SR Fax). It is fax to email, and I have no problems with it -- except I've used it maybe 3 times during that period. I am seriously considering cancelling it. My printer/scanner can be used as a fax, if I'm desperate (using my home phone line). The cost is $10 a month for SR Fax, and I'm not convinced I need to keep it.

However, since I've only been in business for 8 months, and at this point don't have any long-distance clients, am I being premature?

Thanks for your input!

Maxemail has several different plans for different needs starting at $24.00/year.

Hi Sharon,

I am in my second year of business now, but when I first started out I was in a tizzy wondering what to use for a fax system. Come to find out, I haven't had a need to fax with all the other ways to share documents and files "virtually." If there is ever something that I absolutely need to fax, I'll use one of the free fax services out there...or fire up my old fax machine and connect it to my landline for such a momentous occasion.

My clients range from coast to coast - no local clients at all. I'd say save that $10 a month.

Good to know, thank you for sharing! I had been looking into email fax services (myfax), but I think I will just hold off on purchasing anything until I need it. I didn't really think there would be much faxing being done, so I'm glad to see my intuition was right!

Thats nice to hear... I figure I"ll use email and other virtual service and worst case I can go to FedEx Office and use their fax.

I use my fax line daily, but there are free fax websites - www.myfax.com/free. I have not used these online free fax sites but it would be a good thing to check out so you can save yourself some money. My phone/fax is part of my cable/internet package so it is only about $3 per month.

Just what I was looking for. I just bought a new printer/scan/fax/copy and have been wondering whether I needed to get a separate line for fax. Thanks for sharing everyone!

Hi Sharon,

When I first started, I invested in MyFax but after months of non-use decided my funds might be better spent elsewhere. When I went looking for a 1-800 number I discovered that virtual phone system companies offered the same number for use as a fax number. After nearly 5 years in business, I can say I use the fax number rarely but potential clients often take advantage of the 1-800 number so the $10/month has been a worthwhile investment.

HTH!

I don't have all my equipment with me yet since moving business to motor home (currently in Vegas). I have had to go to FedEx etc several times but I have no phone line. Many gov and co want fax (God knows WHY???) but decided to take free offer from RingCentral (first heard from them on VAF) - now will start paying. It works great. They offer other services as well. Got email other day re 800 # - will be checking into.

I use Send2Fax, Its $9 a month I offer my clients free fax receipt and fax out if its something I can do from here. Its a fee but they like that they are getting something for free.
