I'm aiming to make my VA business truly global, but am unsure about advertising my phone number. I currently only have a mobile phone (Australian number) and am looking at getting a skype in number. My problem is which country should I do this for? Australia or US?
I'm wondering if an Australian number may be at deterrant to US clients? Of should I get 2 numbers - one for Australian customers and a US number for anyone else? Or does everyone contact you via email and a phone number is a waste of time?
I am in the US and I have a US phone number with Skype. I also have an 800 number with Ring Central. I have communicated with people from London and Ireland through e-mail. I don't want to incur any more expenses than I have to. If I felt there was a need for a international Skype # I would get it but I would have to have clients first in that particular country before purchasing a third phone number. HTH.
I'm curious about this, too -- thanks for asking it, Carol! I hope to travel while I run my business, so I've been planning to just operate via email. (Unless that's not recommended!) But if there's a way to offer an international phone number cheaply I'd be interested in doing that.

Skype have what's called 'skype in' numbers which means you can select any country's number to be your own (eg a US number) so that people in the US only get charged for calling another US number rather than an international. You can then divert the number from your skype account to you home or mobile phone and they dont' have a clue that your actually on a different continent :-)
I'm not too sure of the prices but it's not very expensive. I'm just trying to figure which country to pick!
