Default Re: Cell Phone Numbers Going Public
Even if this is a hoax, it can't hurt to register with the Do Not Call registery. I have been getting several telemarketing calls on my cell phone and only a few people even know the number so I have to wonder where these people are finding this info.

It is definitely a hoax...email has been circulating for years. They are NOT releasing cell phone numbers to the public. However, it is a wise thing to do to get your cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. Sometimes, if you sign up for something and give your cell phone number as a point of contact, you may potentially expose yourself to "opting in" to receive telemarketing and sales type calls. My cell phone is my only phone as I do not have a land line. I register my cell phone on the Do Not Call Registry every year (just to make sure I am not contacted).

For those of us who are Blackberry users there is another way to block unwanted calls. Blackberry App World has a program called "Buzz Off". It costs $3.99 and allows you to block ANY NUMBER you want. You can even prevent the caller from leaving you a message. I have it and it really is pretty cool. It's certainly worth the price.

Thanks for saying this. I have been getting this email for like 6 or 7 years. I want to scream every time I get it. I do have my posted on the Do not call list but still seems someone always keeps this one going.. Wonder for how many more years this can keep recirculating. If I could only get a hold of the person who started this. Kinda like the text message everyone for years sends me about "If you forward this to 10 people you will get a free laptop." I dont have free text messaging so this one is really a bad one for me. No Offense to who started this thread. Or anyone reading. Please dont take it that way. Just saying..
Also...
I never give my zip code or phone # to stores that ask for this either... Well I do give a number .. My old pager from years back. It does not do anything when you call it.. just stops ringing. Seems all places want it and people dont know they can say "No I dont want to give it" Which you can and it is ok.. but to keep it simple I always give the same old number I had for years. Because all those things do cause junk mail and phone calls. Also opt OUT of any Credit card you have marketing material..

Thank you posting this. I already have my home number registered, but I have more phones since then. So, I went there and registered our cell phones.
