Default Is there a Paypal fee for receiving service payments?
I have a personal account set up now and will start billing my client through email, not paypal. Will I still get a paypal fee when he sends the money?

The paypal fee is taken out when the client makes the payment to your paypal account. I'm not sure if that is what you are asking.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by billing through email. Are you saying that your invoice will go through email with a link to your paypal account?

I have only used Paypal for buying on ebay... and I never paid a fee... but am going to look into it for invoicing customers once I am up and running.

I will be reading this thread to see what the answers are?

Thanks for asking the question..

Hi Collette,

Yes, whenever you receive a payment from someone via Paypal, Paypal takes a percentage from the payment you receive. This is done any time you receive money...it does not matter whether you invoice someone via the Paypal system or by sending them your own invoice.

Here is a link to the PayPal Transaction Fees page:

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we...ide&countries=

The section titled: Fees for receiving purchase payments will apply to the question you are asking.

I hope this helped!

Thanks for the clarification at first I thought it was only if you billed the client using paypal. I'll have to think about it

Thank you for this information. As I continue to build my business plan I like to know all about fees and other expenses, that I had not added in my budget.

By the way, it is highly likely that you can claim your Paypal fees (for business payments) as a business expense. Double check with your accountant, but just something else to think about.

Yes, as Darlene said you pay a fee to PayPal upon receiving a payment. For me, that happened once I had received at least $500 in payment.

PayPal fees can typically be deducted as "banking fees" on your taxes (depending on your business set-up).

I havent received paypal since I started the VA biz but when I painted and sold on ebay, I used to take payment from faux finish customers (one lady was funny because she wanted points so she insisted she pay me from her CC) I just charged the fee on top, which was a percentage.

I've decided to stick with Paypal to keep things consistant. I'd rather not be giving my bank account information out for ACH payments.

Thanks again for the ideas everyone.
