Credit Cards, PayPal, Google Checkout...
I've been in business for 14 years and never accepted anything but checks (and, of course, cash!). I would like to be able to offer other payment options such as credit cards, PayPal, Google Checkout, etc. But, of course, I want the least expensive way to do that as possible! So, which is better, do you think, PayPal, Google Checkout, or something else? Can clients use their credit cards through these two? The emailing invoice thing looks interesting on PayPal as a way for client to us credit cards.
As most of us here, I'm a service-only business. I just want the ability to offer credit cards payments as an option.
Thanks everyone!

I am new here, but from I can see, I think people mostly use PayPal. It seems easy to use, but probably someone with more experience can give you a better opinion. I will also be waiting for their responses. Good luck !

I haven't fully launched my business yet, but have been doing some on again - off again projects for a former employer, who has been paying me via Paypal, and I absolutely love it! Very user-friendly. Not familiar with google checkout.

I'm set up thru Paypal, though no one has used it to make their payment. They've all paid via check. I do have the capability to email my invoices thru Quicken, which I love!

I thought the invoicing on Paypal looked interesting as well but I was looking for the most inexpensive way. I'm checking with Paypal to see if a client can just directly pay me from his account to mine. I will let you know. Don't know anything about Google Checkout, Sorry.

Re: Credit Cards, PayPal, Google Checkout...
Hi
I use Paypal and CellCharge.com. What I like about CellCharge is I can take a client's credit card information and then bill them for my retainers monthly and not wait for them to pay. It's so nice not having to wait. Plus, I can tell for new clients if the credit card is good or not. Priceless!!
Paypal works good for me too. I like the ease of use.
Thanks!

Re: Credit Cards, PayPal, Google Checkout...
I have used Paypal with clients in the past. I believe there is a 3% charge? That may have gone up since I last looked but I charged that to the client. I use quickbooks to send my invoices with a link and my email address. Usually I just get a check in the mail..
I havent heard of cellcharge, Im going to look into that. I did see a really neat swiper that you can connect to your cell and swipe a CC on your phone...

Re: Credit Cards, PayPal, Google Checkout...
Thanks for all the info. PayPal sounds good for what I want (basically just to be able to accept CC.) I don't have that many requests for CC, but I want to have something already set up and ready to go if I do, and be able to advertise that I accept them.
I will check into CellCharge. It would be nice to know beforehand if the charge will go through!
I've only had one time with a client whose checks bounced a few times. I had known her well enough to know it was just a checking account balancing issue (and she never had a problem paying the fees associated with the bounced check on my end). For a while I was going to her bank and cashing the check rather than depositing it!

Re: Credit Cards, PayPal, Google Checkout...
I do all my invoicing through PayPal's online/email invoicing program. This lets me send email invoices with a payment button that my customers click to pay me immediately online. This way Pal Pay does all the payment collecting. Your customer does not need to have their own PayPal account to use this service. Your customers can pay via virtual check (they enter their account info and the money debits from their account), debit card, credit card, or PayPal account balance. The pricing structure for this service is quite reasonable and you get your money rather quickly. Your Monthly Sales = $0 to $3,000 then Fee = 2.9% + $0.30 ($3.20 fee on a $100 sale) Your Monthly Sales = $3,000 to $10,000 then Fee = 2.5% + $0.30 ($2.80 fee on a $100 sale) Your Monthly Sales = $10,000 and up then Fee = 2.2% + $0.30 ($2.50 fee on a $100 sale) No fees to send an invoice and no additional costs like setup charges, monthly fees, or cancellation charges. Using PayPal also gives your customer an added sense of security since PayPal offers a dispute system if there is a problem with the merchandise or service that a payer receives from a PayPal merchant. If a dispute is filed and PayPal finds in favor of the payer, then the money will be returned to your customer. (The merchant gets a chance to defend the dispute.) Julie
