Default My Niche

I have read through the other posts in this forum regarding niches. I believe that it would be a great thing to do because honestly, I'm getting tired amassing all the skills needed to be a successful VA.

Before, I had a notion that in order to be a successful VA, you must possess ALL the qualities that a client needs. But I guess I am wrong.. But I am still glad to know that there is a so-called specialty in this field.

I would greatly appreciate your help to find my niche.

Facts about me:
- I am a 3rd year student taking up an Law
- I have a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies

My skills are:

- data entry
- MSWord, MSPowerPoint, MSExcel and related applications/software
- Adobe Photoshop CS3
- transcribing - both general and legal
- article editing/writing
- basic SEO
- general administrative support skills
- calling people
- video editing
- creation of flyers, banners, graphic designs, business card
- editing pictures
- data organization
- drafting legal documents
- research
- basic html and xhtml
- basic website design

Maybe you should consider going into the Law industry by targeting lawyers and such. I would take your list that you have and evaluate yourself - 1 to 5 on how good you think you are. Then I would take it from there. I do other things that would help someone but if I am not proficient in it or know it to do their work, then I won't suggest it. If they ask me, I am honest with them and tell them I am familiar with it but haven't really worked with it. You don't want to give your client expectations you can't fulfill. My two cents worth!

BTW, I am too working on my niche to narrow it down some, it is a hard task.

We all have the ability to do many things, but the key is to find exactly what you are good at and what you enjoy doing and pursue that as a niche.

I agree, we have to enjoy what we are doing. Also when I'm unfamiliar with something, like let's say a software program, I just let them know that I've been using various software programs for years and have no problem learning new ones. I also let them know that I learn quickly and take notes so I can be more efficient (meaning instead of having to ask a question over and over, I've written it down so I can refer to my notes instead - then I find in a short time I no longer need the notes).

I think if we can convey confidence in ourselves and our abilities to someone, they are more apt to take a little extra time to train us in something we may not be familiar with. It's worked for me for the most part anyway.

Happy New Year!!

Being new at this I am still finding my nich/feet. At the moment I have 4 clients, only two of them are in the same industry.
I find that if i enjoy something I have far more confidence in myself. I agree with Kathy. Find something you love doing and go for it. Best wishes.
