Default Software for non-emailed newsletters
I will be working on setting up a newsletter to go out every other month or so, something simple and short. I will be mailing rather than e-mailing because I just like that idea better (and my mailing list is short enough that the cost is not prohibitive).

Do you think MS Publisher is the best thing to use for this or is there something else? (I have Publisher but have never used it!) Didn't know if some programs/software were better suited for e-mail newsletters versus mailed.

Thanks!

Hi Pam,

I think MS Publisher is great for paper newsletter creation, I personally used this in two of my previous positions for creating newsletters....loved it! I'm sure others will chime in with their preference, but for me this was the most user-friendly, uncomplicated, application to use. Basically, if are familiar with Word you can work with Publisher. Hope this helps, good luck.

BTW, I've been meaning to mention, I love your website, especially the breakdown in your pricing page, very informative, very professional.

Hi Pam,

I agree with Anita, if you already have Publisher, it's a great program to use for your newsletter and much easier to use than some of the more complicated ones out there. I guess my only caveat would be whether your printing service supports the publisher file types. If you're printing it yourself, there's no problem, or if you have Acrobat, you could convert it to PDF. Just check with your printer first.

Good luck!

Thanks, ladies! I was hoping Publisher would still be a good choice for what I'm planning and sounds like it is. I am printing myself so no problem there. Plus I have a way to convert to PDF if needed.

And Anita, thank you SO much for the website compliment; you made my day!

Those without Microsoft Publisher who want to get similar function might want to check out Scribus. It's a free/open-source desktop publishing program. You can get it for Linux and also for Windows.

http://scribus.net is the homepage.

The only downside is that it does not open Publisher files. But, if this is your own work, then that may not be a deal-breaker.

@ Pam - yes, download PDF complete and you should be able to SAVE AS PDF.

Good luck!
