I do a fair few email campaigns for clients and yes to a degree they do work - I think the main point for most of my clients is the visibility it gives them - even if the person receiving the newsletter/email is not currently a customer they still know that the service/product is available when they do decide to buy/contract or whatever. It's a low cost and easy way to keep in touch with people.

Hello--
My sales/conversion rate has certainly increased with recognized branding. However, giving unsolicited emails, like the other brilliant members mentioned, is an iffy subject. A great way to avoid this is double opt-in subscription. Or, incentivize people to join your newsletter. I tried offering a free $250 shopping spree (Visa gift card) once. It worked!

I agree with the earlier comment about providing valuable content is important. Also, I would suggest not abusing this... over doing it is definitely a turn off with any relationship.

Hi All,
IMHO, the low cost of email campaigns make them a viable option. It is very important that your list be scrubbed, scrubbed and scrubbed again. Be very specific about your target market, as conversion rate is typically fairly low. However, as I mentioned, the low costs of executing the campaign still makes for a decent cost per acquisition. Also, proper list segmentation will mitigate the number of unread emails. If you are purchasing your list from a third party, make sure you understand where/how the leads are generated, this will help you determine if the people on the list can benefit from , and see value in your service. Otherwise, your email just becomes an annoyance, as people in this thread have mentioned. Finally, become versed in the CAN SPAM Act. You can find out information about it here: www.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/canspam.html

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

My experience with email marketing has been with the use of sending out a newsletter to those who have subscribed to a client's list. If it is done in a way that does not seem pitchy, people tend to forward the newsletter and in turn, more folks sign up for the newsletter. Giving you more potential clients to market to...

I use iContact and AWeber. AWeber gives you more tacking options so that you can really see where your traffic is coming from. So, if you have opt in forms on all your social media accounts, AWeber will let you know which sites the traffic is coming from when a person signs up. It has other cool features as well.

What works for one may not work for others. It is ok not to try everything out there.

My two cents.

Hi guys

I'm new here, but just wanted to add. I have used vistaprint email marketing - It is quite good although you do pay a small sum a month, but you can do newsletters or target e-mails etc. Although people do hate getting mail they don't want, you may still hit the right person and get business!

Ok, here is my two cents worth. I strongly believe in email marketing and have clients that I do it for. Although, we don't purchase lists, but either ask prospects or clients if they would be interested in receiving newsletters, product information, etc or have them sign up at the website. I do not pay for emails sent. Waste of money! I have a CMS that allows emails to be sent out one at a time (and tracks it) , I pull my distribution list, add context plus any attachments and BING they are gone - one at a time. I like to upload the newsletters to clients websites -- have a link in the email to the letter and track it through the site information. Works well.
I would never send email to prospects that do not want it or have not signed up for it because I agree that the email box gets pretty full.
I hope this makes sense.

Adding my 2 cents worth!

Listening (reading!) how everyone feels about their overloaded Inbox, I would say the secret to email marketing, is hitting the right note and getting people's attention - the very first time!

For me that would be a mixture of witty comments, free information (sharing something helpful with no added sales pitch) and imagery/branding.

Maybe try your idea on a friendly audience (your own free email contacts) and get feedback before buying a targetted list?

I have been toying with the email marketing tactic. I have my CAN SPAM laws together but I am worried about the whole "going into the junk mail" factor

Does anyone know exactly what the rules are regarding sending mail, and when it is considered unsolicited?
