Default Email Marketing
Hi, has anyone tried email marketing compared to sending out leaflets or postcards. It has beens suggested to me but I wonder if it is not personal enough. Any thoughts.

Wacko Re: Email Marketing
I think email marketing would be a difficult one. I personally haven't tried it but I do tend to delete emails before I read them if I get them from people I do not know. That's just my opinion. I guess there certainly no harm in trying it and seeing if it works for you.

I did some email marketing when I first started but was not successful.
I also delete my emails if they are from someone I don't know, so I assume that's what happened to most of mine. Perhaps if you had a really catchy subject line aimed at a very specific market you might get a better response. I thought I had done that but obviously it need to be even more catchy and even more specific.

Unsolicited commercial emails are risky because you don't want to violate the federal CAN-SPAM laws. I just attended a seminar yesterday about using email to market. It's best if you have a sign-up box on your website. Then people are giving you permission to contact you for information.

Thanks, the comments that you came up with echo how I feel. I am very careful on what I open in my emails and would expect the type of businesses I would be aiming at to be the same.

Sneeze, as has already been pointed out, email marketing isn't the most effective way to get new business. In my experience, it's far better to have a sign up box on your homepage offering an article or resource (eg. newsletter). This serves two purposes: firstly, you've already got the potential client's interest and secondly, because they've entered their details, they've authorised you to contact them direct...problem solved!!
