There are five local Chamber of Commerce's in my area, this is precisely where my current list came from! I contracted with a freelancer and for $50 she was able to glean over 900 contacts from the five sites.

Of course, some of the addresses were no longer valid, but I see that as an opportunity to provide another service to clients; keeping their online presence up-to-date!

I use MailChimp and they have a very user friendly tutorial that takes you step by step. I have gained alot of knowledge for doing newsletters just by watching them. They also have webinairs every wed for those that need the extra help.

Viki,

I'm impressed with the size of your list. Several questions:

1. how did you compile such a large list and how long did it take you?

2. with such a large list do you have any issues mailing to all of them at one time?

Thanks.

Carol

Thanks to everyone not only for the idea of emailing a newsletter but also for the various resources provided to use. I plan to do a newsletter soon and I think emailing is the way to do it.

My advice: keep it brief and electric!

Well said. I would add that I use MailChimp for newsletters for both my blog and VA business. I can customize the newsletter to reflect my website colors and everything. It's free for up to 100 subscribers, and really low cost after that.

Keep us posted,
Brandy

OK, I see the benefit of the email newsletter, but how do you keep it from being viewed as spam when it is sent initially?
