Default Potential Client Follow-up?
Hiya ,

So I have a question... when a potential client requests more information from you & you supply it, & then never hear from them again - do you take action at all?

My particular situation is nothing too disappointing, but someone emailed me & wanted to discuss a project. My response was typical - "thanks for contacting me... blah blah blah" & also I emailed them my "consultation form" in order to get a better idea of their needs - fully expecting they would comply - but they didn't. lol

They didn't ask anything specific or for a proposal - they didn't even give me any info at all - so that's why I responded with my form & also did mention once I had a better idea of what they were looking for, then we could set up a time to chat further.

Anyhow, a week went by & I did send a typical follow up email, but still haven't heard a thing - it's been a couple/3 weeks now. Obviously, they didn't want to give me more info, so oh well, but I'm just curious if anyone else does anything differently when following up? TIA!

They might have been just shopping around. If it were me, since you already sent them a follow up email, add their address to your database of contacts and then spend your valuable time looking for another client who needs you.

I agree with Shelley - they were probably "shopping" and looking for the lowest price.

LOL .. while I hate when they do this - I have one that has done it. She has been a "prospect" for about 4 months now - and every now and then she says to me "I'm still going to need you once I get __________ done". So yes I agree ... just continue looking for the next client. If this one comes back great - if not ... great.

I was trying to remember a saying that I learned while working for a direct sales company (home parties are definitely not for me. Loved the back office work, hated the selling part...lol). I couldn't quite remember how it went so I GOOGLED it and found a really interesting article in the process.

The saying is: "Some will, Some won't, So What. Next! (or SW3/N)

Here's the link to the article: http://www.gwinnettnetwork.com/ArticleSW3N.htm

I think that it's a good idea to have a follow up routine and then move on (save the contact info of course and tickle it for 6 months and then try it again or something like that). But the key is to move on. Don't waste your time on a very vague maybe. If they want you and need you, they'll come to you.

Stephanie Love the saying!
I follow up one time as well. I usually send a brief little update with an interesting industry related article attached with of course all my contact information clearly defined at the closing.

I have made it a routine to follow up at least once a week. After about a 4 times of doing this some will come through as clients and some will not. But, in doing this you can keep them on your list for potentials down the line.

You can also follow up with a message such as "Just checking up with you." Or "Keep in touch, I am always here for you." Just catchy subject lines that draw the attention of the potential client.

Good Luck~
Andrea

I usually follow up once. I have had several instances where I haven't heard from people and than months later they call me with a project.

Add them to your mailing list for announcements and newsletters to keep your name in their heads. But after that first weeks contact, I would move on.

I agree I would move on after two follow-ups.
