Re: Need Some Advice
Beth,
You will need to access the client's personal information and you will need to explain this to the client in order to do the job you have been contracted to achieve success.
Dani is correct...the trust issue is huge for a client and apparently this individual will need some assistance in realizing that in order for you to do the job, he will need to trust you.
Do you have a confidentiality clause in your contract? If so, point that out to the client and that you will never betray that trust.
Do you offer a disclosure in your contract as well? Again, point this to out to your client that you do.
If the client will not give you the log on information you need and cannot trust you, I feel that you have two choices:
**Explain that you cannot do the job effectively and will terminate the contract
**Redo the contract to list projects you can do which do not require log on information. If he goes this route, you can spend time building trust so that eventually he may turn over his log on information.
Note: It is important to understand that you really only want to work with people who will trust you. If he is showing signs that he cannot trust you now, this may be a Red Flag that something else may occur down the road. He may question your billing or he may micromanage your work. So consider if this client is really worth the problems that may occur later.
Best of luck with whatever you decide.
Janine
