Default I'm meeting with a potential client on Friday
I am bringing a confidential agreement, resume. What else do I need to bring? My girlfriend's friend is good friends with this potential client.

Thank you

Business cards - give them a few extras to hand out, and I also created a post card offering a discount for new clients who were referred to me by the person and the person doing the referring got an incentive discount as well if the referral signed a contract.

Some sort of flyer or brochure definitely, and you could even bring the contract with you that way if you can get them to sign that day you have it.

Instead of a resume you might try some sort of professional summary.

Resumes are for employees. You are a business owner so you do not need a resume.

I would thoroughly research this company before the meeting and have questions for this
individual. Remember, you are the expert in the services you provide. You will be offering
the solutions to their problems in your meeting. This is not an interview. You are evaluating this client as
much as they are evaluating you.

I would prepare a packet of information spelling out your business policies which include payment information, deposit, late payment penalties, office hours, etc.

Within that packet, include a summary of your business and your achievements in place of a resume.

Include links to articles you may have written, your social networking sites, your blog and your website.

Business cards and brochures or flyers would also serve you well.

Good luck!

Janine

I've just come across this now. Definitely NOT a resume. You're not applying for a job as an employee so you need to get rid of the employee-mentality. Develop a bio or something that outlines your experience but do not set it up like a resume. Very important to help the client see themselves as a client and not an employer.

Thanks for the information on a Resume. I was reading in the Welcome Packets forum and I seen it mentioned that a Resume will be included. This is not a good idea as Janine mentioned in her post. We are "Business Owners" and not an Employee. Also, hope you gained the Client and the meeting went well. Would love to hear about it.

Great tips. Love the professional bio idea as opposed to a resume...makes me feel more self worthy and independent (as business owners should feel!). I have yet to find a client I haven't known in the past so I'm glad I'm researching this now for when that day comes!
