I am a newbie and would like to start off as part time also, I want to build my client base, even though not quite sure how I will do that yet. Then once I become more experience and have more clients, then move to full time. I am still trying to figure out how I will do this, because I know most clients would need more service during regular business hours. This information is very helpful. Thank you all.

My opinion - Be your own VA first. Get a great website, a business plan, a marketing plan, systems, etc. in place first. Then you will be able to handle it when your business takes off. It is more likely to take off if you have a plan.

Hi
I started my marketing with the website first of all, then advertising, business cards, networking events, etc. The reason I wrote the website as the first step was because you can explain all the services offered and savings to a potential client, but if they want you to work with them, everyone will look for the businesses website first. this way the potential client can sit and read about your business at their own pace. In this day and age, I truely believe that a website is the initial way to go for introducing your business. all you other marketing tools can be created after that, and have your website address included in them.
Hope this has helped

What has worked for me is to volunteer to be the secretary of my networking groups. I have just now started to volunteer for my son's hockey association as well. Once people see what you can do, they will come running. Usually these things can be done anytime (except the actual networking meetings) and they usually don't take a lot of your time to do the projects.

Hi, I'm new to the business as well. I saw on another thread that you can check the newly issued business licenses in the newspaper and send out brochures. I have not done this yet, but it seems like a good idea to start

Thank you Angelica for starting this post. As new to the VA industry and not so good in marketing, this has really helped. Thanks everyone!

Has anyone found success marketing on Craigslist? Just wondering I just put a posting up today in my area and was wondering should I place one in several different other areas?

Hi,

The only thing that craigslist has brought me is a bunch of Spam Mail. I have yet to get a client from Craigslist. I placed a post on kijiji.com, and as of yet no calls, or email inquiries. I got my very first client from oDesk and we parted ways this week due to some issues. I now have a Twitter account for my business and every 30-45 minutes I update my status with a very professional saying about how wonderful Virtual Assistants are etc. I have a lot of followers and I just put the page up last night, I have about 37 followers in less than 24 hours.

Keep trying, anything that is worth doing is worth doing correct and worth working to accomplish it.

Thanks

I agree I just get the Craigslist spam so I didn't even repost the listing. I'm going to give the odesk site a try though.

Shari,

I really appreciated what you said. Leaving a trail to my virtual door makes sense. There's so much to take in. I'm really excited about all the information that I am able to get from this forum
