Question Do you request reference from new clients?
I was wondering, how many of you request references or do due dilligence for new long term clients? You know, just to ensure that they are reputable, well paying and not the type of client you want your name or company name to be associated with?

I do my due diligence on the individual and/or company. I also encourage a phone consult so that I can get a good "feel" for the company. It is hard to find out if they are timely payers until you actually bill but I make sure that i have a signed agreement before I complete any project.

Absolutely do your homework! and the contract is a must before work is done..then if there are problems you at least have recourse.
