I have one full-time client, and just signed my second for project work only (until we get to know each other a little better). My full-time client is starting to refer me out to his network (yay!) and in "selling" my business to his peers, he often refers to me as his "on-line business manager" more than his "VA." My duties have expanded to include controlling his social media, writing blog posts, updating his website, developing his marketing materials, following up on leads, bookkeeping, etc.

We both agree that my role is now more of a traditional office manager. I'm curious what those with more experience than I have think about an "online business manager."

I tend to label more as a Virtual bookkeeping business. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with the term virtual assistant however , the word assistant I believe might not be so good for marketing purposes. I would appreciate others intake on this

I like online business manager but I agree with Sabrina's comment from last year. I'm a business owner. I think that is important too.

I use Business Support Specialist. But i find that the title alone never says enough - it's a succinct statement of services.

I like Administrative Professional. Or maybe Business Professional. I'm trying to think of a name for my company incorporating one of those (I haven't registered my business name yet so it wouldnt be a problem to change).

Independent Contractor isn't bad other than the fact that I have a tendency to spell Independent wrong.

Consultant implies that you won't be doing work yourself, and that other people just ask you how to do it. I can understand maybe if you are someone that has twenty years in your industry and has made the companies you work for millions of dollars (I know one person that would be perfectly justified in using the Consultant term as he is very very good at what he does and worth every penny), but it doesn't seem right for what is basically a distanced based assistant.

Such a great thread with so many valuable ideas. I, too, get a blank stare when I say Virtual Business Manager/ Virtual Assistant... I'll try "independent contractor providing xyz services..." and see how it goes.

As much as I like the term Consultant, I agree that it sounds too much like and "advice giver" and not someone who actually does the work. Business Management Professional... Or independent business management professional...
