Default Courting a New Client
Sorry if this is a long one...

A few weeks ago, I had a great in-person meeting with a big-time event planner who is downsizing her business due to the economy (that's where I come in!). We seemed to have a good repoire and she gave me a small project to complete, which is done, except for some updates I'm waiting on from her. A few days after our initial meeting, I e-mailed her a reminder about the changes.

I then received the deposit I requested. I sent her a quick e-mail saying I received her deposit and am just waiting for her changes. I also let her know that she will most likely have a credit, so to please let me know if there is anything else I can do for her.

I haven't heard back from her and it's been more than a week. I know she is very busy, so I don't want to bug her.

But my questions is, how much more should I contact her? Although I'd love to work with her, I certainly don't want to appear desperate.

I'm thinking of waiting about one more week and sending another e-mail, but then just letting it go.

Any suggestions?

It sounds to me like she has just been very busy and hasn't had time to get to the changes yet. What may have been a priority once, may have gotten eclipsed by something else, like happens to all of us. She sent the deposit, so this shows she intends to work with you, otherwise it seems she would have canceled prior to paying it. It makes sense to do what you suggested: give it a week and make contact. This doesn't sound desperate, it just sounds like you would like to be able to complete the job for her in a timely fashion.

She sounds pretty busy. I would not panic if I were you. The fact that she made payment just demonstrates her willingness to work with you. I guess she just has not found the time.
